Top 10 Trends This Holiday Season
With all the upcoming festivities it can be hard to figure out what to wear when you want to look your best, especially if you’re on a budget like most of us these days. If you love fashion like I do, I know sometimes it can be overwhelming to fallow what’s in and well, what’s not. Trends change with the seasons and this one has some interesting new finds. Here you will find the top ten trends to fallow so you can showcase your inner fashionista and become the talk of the town.
Jumpsuits and Palazzos
Who says beauty has to be pain? The 70s inspired laidback wide-legged jumpsuits and palazzos are in this holiday season. Designers such as Michal Kors and Chanel have been incorporating this trend into their winter collections. What is so great about this trend is that it doesn’t require much accessorizing and you can look great while being comfortable. It is also a great investment as it can be dressed down for daytime or rocked up for a glamorous evening.
For eveningwear pair up the jumpsuits with a belt and high heels and a palazzo with a stunning halter top for the most dazzling evening attire. If you feel your jumpsuit is more daytime glam it up with accessories.
The Soft Look
This new trend is all about curvy and rounded silhouettes. It incorporates puffy sleeves, oversized sweaters, bell shaped skirts and tulip shaped dresses. It has invaded all aspects of fashion from dresses to skirts and sweaters. The most triumphant pieces can be seen on the Stella McCartney and Burberry collections for winter 2012.
What is so great about this look is that the deflated silhouettes and exaggerated curves emphasis the female figure, adding a touch of femininity. It is a great look for daytime or a night out. Add stilettos and let your legs hang out for a more favorable result.
Make It Shine
It’s time to shine this holiday season. Sparkle and shiny metallics are here to stay. Taking the catwalk by storm, this look can be appreciated in many collections such as that of high-end designer Oscar de la Renta. With this hot trend you can dazzle any time of day, you don’t have to wait until nighttime for the stars to come out.
When wearing pieces with a lot of glitz, try to keep your accessories to a minimum dose. Wearing too much can be overwhelming and hamper an otherwise fabulous look. If you want to spice up your day time attire, throw in a metallic jacket to your everyday jeans and t-shirt. Another option would be to opt for metallic dresses in more casual contour.
Knee-High Boots
The knee-high boots inspired by the 60s are making a comeback this holiday season with designers such as Yves Saint Laurent and Prada. This retro trend compliments bulky cashmere, miniskirts and mod monochrome (I bet they would look great with some soft look pieces). You can also wear them over skinny jeans or tights for a more casual ensemble.
What’s so great about this hot trend is that these boots are easier to wear and more comfortable than thigh high boots but are still glamorous and chic. They also provide a break from the traditional, as designers today are incorporating different textures, colors and patterns into their designs. It’s a modern take on the sixties.
Prints and Patterns
Intricate prints and patterns this season include swirls, polka dots and motifs incorporated with a colorful palette. Don’t get ready to say goodbye to the flower prints just yet, winter florals are also popular among designers. Check out Marc Jacobs and DVF’s collections to get inspired.
This trend is definitely different from the somber colors usually worn during the fall and winter time. It’s actually a super feminine style and can be worn different ways. For a more delicate and pretty look try to wear polka dots and spots. Mix prints and patterns with uniform colors to get a knockout ensemble. To wear something more out there, play mix and match with different prints and patterns.
Forties Extravaganza
This winter 2011-12, high fashion designers such as Miu Miu and Gucci have brought back the forties embellishing pencil skirts with great accessories. They incorporate pearls, gloves and shrugs into their ensembles to accentuate that glamour pertaining to the forties. This sophisticated and conservative style is very feminine and high end. To add a little sexiness you could try out a pencil skirt with a high slit.
Try out this new trend for a more elegant and glamorous look. It will transport you back to a different time. You could even wear a fedora if you want to get into character or add a little twist of modernity with slits and unexpected color combinations.
Fetish Fashion
Fetish fashion has taken the runway by storm. Designs are made out of black latex, rubber, PVC and leather. Inspired by The Night Porter this look is really sexy and somewhat suggestive without the vulgarity or cheapness. You won’t see anything out of a naughty Halloween party here! If you don’t believe me, check out the sensuous creations of Louis Vuitton.
What is really great about this new trend is that it takes inspiration out of fetish to come up with totally different looks. The designers use different elements to incorporate into their designs such as – sheer inserts, leather panels and black lace. This means you could have anything from a really feminine ensemble to a rocker style dress.
Tunics and Slacks
Women who want to look high fashion with simplicity don’t need to look any further. Tunics are paired with slacks by the likes of Michal Kors and DVF to achieve a simple but elegant attire. This is a comfortable and effortless look that caters to women who are confident in themselves and don’t need much embellishment.
It is a great look for day and night. Stick to wool and jersey during the day and vamp it up with luscious silks and vivacious metallics for the night. The relaxed and loose silhouette provided by this new trend provides sophistication, elegance and simplicity while maintaining all the glamour of high end fashion. Being in fashion doesn’t mean you have to be a slave to it!
This Season's Topping
Hats come in all shapes, sizes and styles and they are the perfect accessory to top off your winter attire. This season the sky is the limit – you’ll find hats inspired by all decades – the forties, sixties and seventies. There are chin-strapped pillbox caps, berets, fedoras and even low hanging oversized hats. Check out Missoni for hat inspiration.
What is so great about this look is that you can incorporate it to any ensemble. You can fallow this trend without having to wear it head to toe – so you can wear what you prefer and still add a touch of sixties glamour with a wide rimmed fedora. Hats can also be used to dress up or dress down your outfit so it can be day or night appropriate.
Great Coats
No Holiday outfit is complete without a great coat. This season it’s all about the floor-grazing overcoats, knitted ponchos, capes and cardi-coats. Giorgio Armani and MaxMara were not excluded from this big trend.
A great coat can instantly add a touch of elegance and softness to any ensemble so it is definitely a good investment. It can be worn during day and night with an array of different outfits and can be used for layering. Depending which way you go – you can get a tailored style that’s trés chic with a floor length coat, which actually is a great item for both day and evening wear, or a more laidback and cozy look with a knitted piece. Either way, there is no way you can go wrong.
